COVID-19: How To Stay Healthy While Selling Your Home

March 18, 2020

Take the time to thoroughly clean and disinfect high-traffic areas of your home

Making sure that you and your family remain safe and healthy during the outbreak of COVID-19 is incredibly important. If you’re currently in the process of selling your home, or thinking about putting it on the market, what steps can you take to ensure you’re doing your part to stop the spread?

Here’s a list we’ve put together with some simple recommendations that will give you and your family some peace of mind.

1. Limit Traffic

Instead of holding open houses, opt for scheduled showings OR Virtual Open Houses.

2. Clean, Clean, Clean!

Take the time to thoroughly clean and disinfect high-traffic areas of your home with EPA-registered household disinfectants, especially before and after any showings.

Pay special attention to:

Items to clean during COVID-19: doorknobs, bathrooms, kitchen faucets/sinks, handles, tables, light switches, phones, keyboards/tablets/computers

3. Communicate With Buyers

Ask buyers to wear gloves or carry a clean tissue to touch the above list of high traffic areas.

4. Go Virtual

Take advantage of virtual tours to show your home instead of holding in-person showings.

Have buyers use hand sanitizer or wash their hands immediately upon entry.

5. Know Your Limits

Limit showings to a max of 2 Buyers and their agent preventing unnecessary people into your home.

6. Clean Hands Are Key

Have buyers use hand sanitizer or wash their hands immediately upon entry. Make sure hand sanitizer, tissues and other health essentials are stocked in the home.

7. Simple Showings

For a showing, do not feel like you need to leave your home. Try to think of creative ways to allow potential buyers the privacy to tour your home like walking your pet, enjoying a cool drink on your patio or simply waiting in the driveway while they tour.

8. Time To Vent!

Make sure air vents are free, clear and cleaned properly. If needed, have maintenance done on your HVAC systems to ensure everything is in proper working order.

Hold web meetings for negotiations, discussions or closings whenever possible.

9. A Little Fresh Air

When weather permits, keep windows open to allow for fresh air to circulate through the home.

10. Keep Your Distance

Hold web meetings for negotiations, discussions or closings whenever possible.

11. Listen To The Experts

When in doubt, follow all general health guidelines as laid out by the CDC to protect you and your family.
